Deadstock = left over stock which has not been used or sold and has therefore become excess material, AKA waste. Waste which is actually in perfect condition (and beautiful) but unless used it will be wasted. Deadstock yarns specifically are not easily reabsorbed by the fashion industry as knitting machines require technical skill to set up and 'production' focuses on efficiency over flexibility. E.g. once they are set up to run, yarns of different fibres and characteristics are not easily interchanged.  Deadstock yarns are often found in limited quantities and colours and this is why they get discarded by industry.

I have been developing a collection of textile pieces which are reproducible in size and weight regardless of the yarns used to knit them. This allows yarns to be used up to the last thread. Once a colour is gone - it's gone, but the textile production can continue. The design of your knitted piece is defined by the colour codes you pick, so every piece is inherently one of a kind.
